Shaw III, William Aloysius 55, of Garden City, N.Y., passed away on January 11, 2026. Loving husband of 27 years to Tara (nee O’Hanlon). Devoted and loving father to Michela and Riley, his greatest joys and proudest accomplishments. Cherished son of Maita and William A, Jr. Beloved brother of Timothy (Maria) and Genevieve (Ryan). Dear son-in-law of Peter O’Hanlon. Adored uncle of Ashley, Connor, PJ, Christopher, Mary Kate, Grace, Anastasia, Christian, Addie, Will and Luke. Predeceased by his mother-in-law Mary O’Hanlon.
Billy and Tara shared a partnership built on love, laughter, and unyielding support. He poured his heart into parenthood, guiding his girls with wisdom, kindness, and a boundless sense of humor. Known for his infectious smile and warm spirit, Billy truly loved life. He never met a stranger and every person he encountered was greeted as a friend. Whether sharing a laugh, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, Billy showed up for everyone. His generosity and genuine interest in others touched many lives and created a legacy of compassion. A gifted storyteller and the life of every gathering, Billy’s wit and humor were legendary. The family asks that you honor Billy’s memory by sharing a smile, a laugh, or an act of kindness for someone in need. May his laughter echo in our hearts forever.
The Shaw family is eternally grateful to Dr. Eileen O’Reilly and the incredible care team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

In June, 1997 my mom sold 13 Stratford Ave to Tara. My mom thought Tara's dad was a nice man. My mom moved because my dad had cancer like Tara's husband. My dad also died too young. At 11 Stratford a nice Iranian family lived. With all the Iran news I was looking to see if they lived there. I found out today they moved. And I found out today Tara still lived at 13 Stratford. And I found out Tara's husband passed. So I got on the funeral home website and started to read most of the 62 comments. I am writing this because I have never read any comments like these in my life. He mus…
This is terribly sad news. I grew up 2 houses away from Billy. He's one of the reasons I attended Chaminade High School, and I have wonderful memories of playing basketball in the St. A's parking lot with him and Timmy. The world is a little darker with his passing. May he rest in peace, and may God's perpetual light shine upon him.
Billy was a wonderful person and will be sorely missed. His friendliness, warmth, humor, and kindness were ever-present. Our deepest condolences to Tara, Michela, and Riley.
I was very saddened and shocked to read of Billy's passing in the McClancy newsletter. We taught together while he was there and I remember the good times Tommy Maher, Ed McGlone and I had with him. Unfortunately, all 3 are now gone. I hope the family is doing well as you work through this tragedy.
Billy was a decent man, salt of the earth. I am heartbroken for his family. Rest in peace, Billy.
