1942 - 2023

OBITUARY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie (Val) O’Keefe on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. She had a full, long life and passed away at the age of 81, surrounded by her devoted family.

Valerie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph, who passed away 11 years prior. Despite the great loss of her husband, Valerie remained strong for her family and continued to be a source of love and support to those around her until her transition.

Val and Joe raised their family in Port Washington, NY where they were active parishioners at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. In 2008, they moved to St. Hedwigs Gardens Senior Living Community in Floral Park, NY. There, they lived out their lives and made lasting friendships.

Val never turned down a chance to go to Bingo, or watch her grandchildren play a sport and made sure to never miss Sunday Mass. She loved saying her Rosary and always had it with her.

Val is survived by her children: Elizabeth Cunha, Julie Mercer (Alan), Lisa Werner (Craig), Edward Doxey (Dee), and Rosemarie Busse (Dave) and her stepchildren: Bob (Patty), Francis, and Sissy (Andrew). She is the beloved Grandmother to 15 Grandchildren and Great-Grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren.

Valerie’s legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Rest in peace, Val. Your kindness, love, and spirit will never be forgotten.

We will always “keep smiling” in your memory Mom.
