OBITUARY
Tirbawan Jorree, known to many as Doodie, was born on January 25, 1938 in DeHoop Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, Guyana.
He was the son of Ramnath Jorree, known as Bhada, and Gangelli Jorree, known as Lilchee. He was the youngest brother of Parbatie Beepat, Bhagirat Jorree, Parmanad Jorree, Dirjodhan Jorree, Anganie Ramnarine, and Maniram Jorree.
Growing up in the village of DeHoop, he laid the foundations for a life filled with determination, hard work, and devotion to family. He married his beloved wife, Chandraowti, on January 21st 1961, marking the beginning of a lifelong partnership.
Tirbawan was a dedicated husband to his wife, and a loving father to his six wonderful daughters: Anita, Pawan, Monica, Deokie, Angie, and Soma. He was an adoring grandfather and great-grandfather to his twelve cherished grandchildren: Amy, Naomi, Vijay Jr., Diane, Sharda, Nadia, Andy, Ryan, Brandon, Natalie, Nashaun, and Naiesha, and to his four great-grandchildren: Aryan, Aydin, Alex, and Bri.
Tirbawan’s journey began as a very successful farmer, working in his rice fields, caring for livestock, and nurturing fruit trees. He was a hard worker who single-handedly provided for his family. In 1987, he immigrated to the United States to build a life here bolstered by the strong foundations he already developed back home.
In the USA, Tirbawan was constantly seeking new opportunities and embracing new beginnings with his family by his side. He worked many jobs, including at a clothing store on Jamaica Ave, McDonalds, JFK food services, and Duggal Colors printing shop, before retiring to become a full time grandfather which is the role he excelled in most.
Tirbawan’s favorite time was spending memorable moments surrounded by those he loved. Family was his greatest joy. He looked forward to his weekly shopping trips with his grandchildren that usually started at the grocery store stuffing his bags with fruits, then to the corner store for his cleaning and household supplies, next to the bakery to satisfy his sweet tooth, followed by the liquor store for a bottle of wine or cognac, and lastly to the pizza shop or cafe for lunch to top it all off. Grandfather loved to shop and no trip was complete unless he brought something back for his family.
Widely admired for meticulous care of his vibrant garden, Tirbawan was also well known for his passion for horse racing, and riding his bicycle even well into his 80s. He always embodied dedication and strength. No yearly bloom of flowers and vegetables could have been so bountiful if not for his daily pacing through the yard speaking to himself about his plants, as if to motivate them to grow. He also made sure to nurture his family, speaking to those near and far every day to always stay up to date on the latest happenings.
Tirbawan was a constant source of strength and happiness for all who had the privilege of knowing him throughout life’s journey. He will be remembered as a deeply respected, loving, and generous man whose legacy of family devotion, and caring for others, will continue to inspire all of us. He was a unifying figure who brought many people together and his everlasting presence will continue to do the same for many years to come.
Your presence would bring comfort to our family during this difficult time. We’ll gather to honor a life well-lived and share memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
