OBITUARY

Thomas F. Deck of New Hyde Park, NY passed away on September 14, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after bravely battling cancer for several years.

 

Born on September 27, 1940 in New York City, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Lena Deck. He is survived by Antoinette (“Toni”), his beloved wife of 58 years, and his three children: Phyllis Marcus and her husband Ron of Downingtown, PA; Lawrence of Holtsville, NY; Susan Abrescia and her husband Michael of Melville, NY; as well as 4 grandchildren: Sean Marcus, Carlie Marcus, Nicholas Abrescia and Emma Abrescia. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence of Katy, TX; sister Madeline Kane and her husband Kevin of Massapequa, NY; sister-in-lawMaureen of Redding, CT; sister-in-law Claire of Medford, NY; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Florence, sister-in-law Jeannette Deck, and brothers Robert and Kenneth.

 

Tom attended Hunter College in New York City. He served 6 years in the US Army Reserves. He worked for New York Life Insurance Company in NYC as a Director of Insurance until his retirement after 45 years of dedicated service. He was proud to serve his local community as a volunteer firefighter at Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Company #5 for over 45 years. He was President for a term, worked on many Committees, and enjoyed his Wednesday night poker nights with his fellow firefighters. A lifelong sports fan, he followed the NY Yankees, Knicks, and football Giants. A passionate NY Islanders fan and season ticketholder, he enjoyed attending the games with his son, Lawrence. He was an avid golfer who really loved the game and the time he spent with his golf buddies on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He loved his morning Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and completing the daily Jumble and Crossword puzzles. Tom had some great adventures traveling the globe with Toni and their friends. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s games, events and performances as well as gatherings with his whole extended family.

 

To know him was to love him and he will be forever missed and always in our hearts.

 

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 18, 2022, 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, NY 11040, 516-352-8989. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:45am on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Notre Dame R.C. Church, 45 Mayfair Road, New Hyde Park, NY 11040 followed by Interment at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY 11590.
