OBITUARY
Olga Salerni, 83, passed away on Tuesday December 29, 2020, peacefully in her home in Boynton Beach, Florida. Olga was born November 20, 1937, in her hometown of Salle, in Pescara, Italy. She emigrated to Astoria, New York in 1959, and retired in Florida in 1998. Beloved wife of the late Zefferino Salerni. Loving mother of Tony, Maryanne, Vittoria (Brian), and the late Salvatore. Caring grandmother of Anthony, Julia (Ernesto), Brian, and Marisa, as well as Great grandmother to Amelia. Beloved sister of Florina, and the late Ida. Faithful friend to all her in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her many friends in New York, Florida, and Italy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; or a charity of your choice.

Dear Olga, thank you so much for always welcoming me into your home from the beginning in Astoria to this day. You will be greatly missed by all the friends and family you leave behind especially your children Maryanne, Tony, and Vicky. My condolences to all your family and hope they take some comfort in that you'll be reunited with your loving husband Zefferino and Son Sal.
At Greek funerals there's a phrase whose literal translation is 'life to us' is exchanged by everyone but it's true meaning is let us who are left behind enjoy the gift of life while we have it. This is my wish for everyone mourning Olga now.

I could say that tomorrow we formally mourn the loss of my Aunt Olga, but I see it more as a celebration of the life of my Zia Olga. She was a good and gentle person who intensely loved her family and friends. From the early neighborhoods of Astoria where we celebrated holidays...I think her favorite was baking me La Signorina for Easter..., to being at the pool in her condo in Boynton Beach, she left a trail of friends and lively memories. Luckily, I had the chance to speak with her on Christmas Day where we marveled at the birth of her great grand daughter, remembered only the fun times of our lives together with my cousins and my…
Olga will be a presence missed. She was like a second mother, my godmother! She made awesome meals. Yummy! I always felt part of the family. Olga had that gift of making people feel at home. I remember her making booties and blankets. I still have my red and white knitted sock-boots and a blanket or two. To my bestest-friend and sister Vic, Maryanne and Tony, my heart goes out to you. Olga was a loving, warm and good mother. She did a good job because her children are awesome! Lori mentioned that the memories will "be forever etched in my heart," the same goes for me. Olga will be missed.

Rest in peace Zia Olga and may your soul fly free as you begin your new journey in heaven with your loved ones. Memories of you will be forever etched in my heart, you made our childhood days fun and have so many fond thoughts of good times spent together especially our Astoria days. Thank your for all your love and kindness.
