OBITUARY

Nora Winn died March 28, 2025, at the age of 89. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Gaine and her husband Brian Gaine, son Kevin and his wife Michelle Land, and grandchildren Kelsey, Ryan, Luke, Connor, Eliza, and Liam. She will be remembered as a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother who was always willing to help people in need. Nora immigrated from Ireland at the age of 19 and had 11 siblings. She worked as a telephone company operator, met her husband Bob Winn at a dance in Yonkers, and married in 1968. After raising her two children, she worked as an office manager and then as a real estate agent.

Nora took great joy in communicating with and supporting family in both Ireland and the US. She spent much of her time volunteering at Notre Dame Church and for other Catholic causes and was well known and respected for her devotion to family, community, and her strong religious faith. Her upbeat personality, amazing memory, and desire to help others made a lasting impression.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 1 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 2 at 10:45 AM at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 45 Mayfair Road, New Hyde Park, NY. Interment will occur at Holy Rood Cemetery, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Notre Dame Church social ministry, where Nora and Bob volunteered for many years. One of their many functions is coordinating a dedicated team of volunteers who offer rides to seniors for medical appointments. This was extremely helpful to Nora after she stopped driving several years ago.

I am so sorry to hear that your mother has passed away Patricia and Kevin. My mother was Joan Bestercy, your dad's first cousin. As a child, I remember when your dad brought your mother over to our house and introduced us to her. She certainly was a wonderful fun lady and I remember that my parents saying that your dad had found a wonderful woman to share his life with. Your mom and dad were very nice people. And my mother loved your dad as a brother. I also remember your grandmother Lee( Aunt Lee to me). Again a very caring lady. When my dad passed away, your father and mother were so kind to my mother. …

I've loved Nora for nearly 50 years. We met when I was Patricia's Second Grade Teacher at Notre Dame and Nora was an active PTA mom. She also acted as my Real Estate Agent when my husband and I were considering moving to New Hyde Park.

Nora was such a vibrant and positive personality who was devoted to her faith, family and many charitable endeavors in her Parish and community.

She was a great communicator and loved sharing stories and accomplishments of her wonderful children and grandchildren. Likewise, she was always concerned about others and made a point to keep in touch and express interest in the lives of family and friends.

I find comfort in knowing that Nora is…
