OBITUARY
Murdo Mackay, 90, passed away on April 20, 2024. He was born on September 20, 1933 in Barvas, Scotland to Annie and Donald Mackay. He served in the US Army at Fort Knox Kentucky from 1959 to 1961 and in the Army Reserves from 1961 to 1965. Murdo was married to his beloved wife Ruth Austin of 42 years, and they had two daughters, Ann and Joan. And two son-in-laws, Alfred and Paul. Murdo was a dear brother to his sisters Mary and Margaret and brothers, Donald and Angus. Murdo loved spending time with his 4 grandchildren - Courtney, Austin, John and Kaitlin and his two great grandchildren Ruth and Grace who affectionately called him “Pa”. Murdo was a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service in the New Hyde Park Post Office for 29 years. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

I travelled twice from Scotland to visit New York and had the privilege of meeting Murdo and his fellow Niseach Calum Mackenzie. Two wonderful gentlemen who spent all of their adult lives in NYC but yet welcomed so many exiles into their company and their weekly lunches were infamous! Murdo will be sorely missed and my condolences and love to Ann and Joan and all their families. Also remembering his dear sister Mary on the Isle of Lewis. We give thanks to God for every remembrance of him.
