Maureen McDonagh

1943 - 2021

OBITUARY

Beloved Aunt and devoted friend to many, Maureen McDonagh of Whitestone NY passed away April 7th at the age of 77. Maureen was an exceptional teacher who spent her career in elementary education. She began her career teaching kindergarten in Brownsville and later transferred to Flushing where she taught gifted 2nd graders and later the science and technology curriculum. She was recognized by District 25 for excellence in science education and was tapped to lead workshops for science teachers throughout the district.


Maureen had an enormous network of friends including MaryAnn, her first apartment-mate, the “Brooklyn crowd”, her teacher colleagues, her ski house friends, the Hamptons people and after her early retirement, the Vero Beach bunch and her Cryder Point Ladies.


Maureen loved to travel both with her many friends and her niece Elaine and her family. She was a second grandmother to Nicholas, Katie, and Olivia and took great pride in their accomplishments. Moe loved to golf, read and cook. She was generous to a fault both with her time and treasure. She was a life- long patron of St. Jude Children’s hospital and many other worthy charities.


She is predeceased by her beloved brother John and her parents Jack and Bridie. She is survived by sisters Eileen and Noreen, sister-in-law Terri and brother Patrick. She is also survived by her nieces, Karin Martin, Elaine Ferraro (Steve), Carol Tatum (TJ), and Meghan McDonagh and her nephews Sean and Kyle McDonagh. She was a devoted Great Aunt to Alexander, Christopher, Katherine and William Martin, Nicholas, Katie and Olivia Ferraro and Sarah, Connor and Emily Tatum. Moe is also survived by her many, many beloved friends who were her family too.


A memorial visitation will be held Friday 3pm - 6 pm at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 560 Lakeville Rd., New Hyde Park, NY. Religious service 5 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s hospital.
