2/28/1926 - 1/23/2021

OBITUARY

Obituary of Mary Misciagna Mary Misciagna of Ballard Green in Ridgefield, CT, passed into the loving arms of Christ on January 23, 2021, with her son and eldest daughter by her side. She was 95 years young. Mrs. Misciagna was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter, with whom she was married 53 years. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Gabriel (Michael) of Manhasset, NY, and her grandson Luke. She is predeceased by her grandson, Michael. She is also survived by her daughter, Angela Levy (Scott) of Great Neck, NY, and grandchildren Michael, Steven and Jennifer. She is further survived by her son, Patrick Misciagna (Laura) of Ridgefield, and two grandchildren Jonathan and Christopher. Mary Misciagna was an immigrant from Bari, Italy. She came to America aboard the cruise ship Andrea Doria, and lived in Manhattan with her sister. She met her future husband here (also from Bari, Italy) and they soon married. They moved to Queens, NY where they raised a family. Peter worked two jobs to support his growing family and Mary learned to be a seamstress. She used her sewing skills not only to make beautiful clothing for her family, but also as a costume designer for a local theater group in Queens. Later, Mary worked with clothing designer Carol Peretz. She appreciated the opportunities afforded to her in America and, together with her husband, made a wonderful and happy life for their children. From Italy, Mary Misciagna brought the family recipes of good, southern Italian comfort foods, breads and cookies that have become an integral part of family memories and culinary lore. She taught her grateful family members how to make her cherished Italian recipes. Mary was a gracious host and loved to share her special focaccia bread as a treat with her guests. Mary loved living in Ridgefield, and spent many happy years here. She lit up the room with her smile, and she was always smiling as she happily attended concerts at Ballard Green, holiday parades on Main Street, firework displays at the high school, bingo and other religious and cultural events around town. She especially appreciated the care and devotion shown to senior citizens in Ridgefield.
