OBITUARY
Marie LiCalzi (Quaranta), of Manhasset Hills, on August 14, 2022, at age 98. How to summarize a life that spanned almost a century and was filled with trials and perseverance, setbacks and countless achievements? Brooklyn-born and first generation, she was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School at age 16, working first for the U.S. Committee for the Care of European Children leading into America’s entry into WWII, and then in advertising. Marie was a force of nature, the independent, strong and devoted matriarch of a sprawling, accomplished family. In addition to being the CEO of the LiCalzi household, Marie was for 40 years the comptroller and cornerstone of Luke LiCalzi P.E., P.C, a successful consulting engineering firm in Manhattan led by her beloved husband Luke, who predeceased her after 65 years of loving marriage and true partnership. She was an avid reader and a lover of culture, with a curious and fierce intelligence. She is survived by children Greg (Carol), Mark (Virginia), Jacqueline (Jill), Pamela (John), and daughter-in-law Rita. She was the beaming grandmother of 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and godmother to many. Marie was also predeceased by her eldest son Dr. Luke LiCalzi, grandson 1st LT Michael Lucian LiCalzi USMC, parents Michael and Palma, sister Dot, and brothers Pat and Michael. The funeral mass will be 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in New Hyde Park. The family asks that expressions of sympathy be donated to the Ace in the Hole Foundation Inc., c/o Greg LiCalzi, Jr., 16 Stuart Place, Munsey Park, NY, 11030 (www.aceintheholefoundation.org). I was truly saddened to hear about the passing of my beautiful Godmother. I remember as a young girl thinking that she reminded me of Elizabeth Taylor. Dolly, Dotsy, Theresa and Dorothy reunited again. God bless their soles and my deepest condolences to the LiCalzi family. With love, Paula (Puttagio) Price and family.
