OBITUARY
Marguerite Elizabeth Talbot (nee Wist), the matriarch of the Talbot family, passed away on August 8, 2025.
Marguerite (Marge) was the sole child of Marie and Wilhelm Wist, German immigrants to the United States. She was raised by her mother after the death of her father in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, a largely Germanic community. She worked as a legal secretary for a Manhattan attorney and for the Fordham Law Review.
At the Fordham Law Review, Marguerite met her husband Gerard (Gerry), who was a student at the law school and was selected to the Board of the Law Review. They worked together, dated, and quickly fell in love. After Gerry graduated and became a lawyer, they wed and enjoyed a long and happy marriage, recently celebrating their 66th Anniversary.
Marguerite and Gerry moved to Long Island, where they raised four children. Marguerite was an involved parent, who focused on creating a warm, loving home.
Marguerite and her beloved husband, Gerry, shared a deep love of travel, often journeying to visit relatives in Germany and Ireland and delighting in the chance to explore new destinations together. At home, Marguerite’s passion for learning never waned—she was a voracious reader, an avid solver of jigsaw puzzles, and a devoted Jeopardy! fan, with friends and family knowing not to call during her cherished daily viewing. She treasured time with her family, whether in the city or at Lido Beach, on family vacations, or gathered for holiday celebrations. In 1988, Marguerite and Gerry moved back to the city where they formed close and lasting friendships with their neighbors. Together, they volunteered at The Hospital for Special Surgery, giving their time and energy to helping others. The couple also enjoyed weekly dinners at their favorite restaurant, where the staff greeted them like family, always stopping by to say hello.
Marguerite leaves behind her beloved husband Gerry, daughter Karen and her husband Brian (Gallagher), son Brian and his wife, Linda, daughter-in-law Lilita (Lee), son Mark and his wife Christine, grandchildren Matthew and his wife Pamela, Brendan, Lauren and her husband Connor (Powers),Carolyn and her husband Joseph (Rizzotti), Erin, Patrick, Daniel, Ryan and Danielle and great-grandchildren Kevin, Nicholas and Emma Talbot.
She was predeceased by her infant son Sean, son Christopher and grandson Sean.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marguerite's name to Fordham University
