Louise D. Fried

1934 - 2024

OBITUARY

Louise Dreyer Fried, longtime resident of New Hyde Park, NY died peacefully on Wednesday morning November 6th, 2024. Louise was born in Manhattan, New York on November 25th , and she was only 19 days away from her milestone 90th birthday. She was raised in the Bronx by Joseph and Germaine Dreyer and had the great good fortune of becoming the step-daughter of Frank Russo at the age of 16. Growing up her family life embraced French culture as her parents both came to New York from Alsace, France as newlyweds. After graduating from James Monroe High School, Louise began a career as a top-notch Executive Assistant to executives of companies including Coinmach, Seagrams Wine and Spirits, Equitable Insurance and Sweetheart Paper Goods. At each stage of her career she made lifelong friends, many of whom were a generation younger than she and who she was still in touch with at the time of her death. Nothing brought Louise more joy than her 3 grandchildren but during her lifetime she also enjoyed traveling, seeing a Broadway play, ice skating, horseback riding, music, dancing, good food and a fancy, frothy cocktail! Louise loved being with family and friends and many a BBQ or party was hosted by her in the home she loved for 62 years. If you needed someone to watch your young kids, she was there. If there was a stray animal her children begged to take in, she said ok. Many were cheered by a greeting card by Louise for any occasion, happy or sad. She lived life to the fullest and was most grateful for the many friends she made over the years.

Louise is survived by her daughter Denise Fried Walsh and husband Steven Walsh, her son John Fried and her 3 beloved grandchildren Mallory Walsh Abernethy and her husband Tom Abernethy, Leah Walsh and Logan Walsh. She was predeceased by her husband, John T. Fried and brother Robert Dreyer. She also left behind her loving sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews, many of whom made the kind effort to visit her these past few months while in hospice, which gave her much happiness.
