OBITUARY

Mr. Leo Patrick O’Hara, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, in New Hyde Park, New York. Born on March 29, 1933, in Killure, Aclare, County Sligo, Ireland, Leo’s life was a testament to hard work, devotion to family, and faith.

Leo spent his early years in the picturesque countryside of County Sligo before embarking on a journey that would lead him to the United States. He dedicated his professional life to the construction industry, working with James E. Mitchell and Son's and later with Structure Tone in New York City. His expertise and determination were evident in every project he undertook. Beyond his career, Leo was known for his remarkable ability to fix just about anything, a skill he generously shared while working around his home and those of his sons both in America and Ireland.

A devout Catholic throughout his life, Leo was an active member of Notre Dame Parish in New Hyde Park and previously St. Bartholomew's Parish in Elmhurst, Queens. His faith was a cornerstone of his character and guided him through life’s joys and challenges.

Leo was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary T. O’Hara, with whom he shared a devoted marriage filled with love and partnership. Together he and Mary raised a close-knit family that brought them immense pride and joy. He is survived by his children: Michael J. O’Hara, Leo G. O’Hara, Brendan J. O’Hara, Thomas V. O’Hara, and Catherine M. O’Hara as well as his daughters-in-law. Leo’s love extended deeply to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he delighted in doting on them and treasured every moment spent together.

Leo also leaves behind his sister-in-law Phil O’Hara of Killure, Aclare, County Sligo, Ireland, his sister Phil O’Hara of Carrowkeel, Ballisadare, County Sligo, Ireland, his sister-in-law Patricia Walsh of Geashill, County Westmeath, Ireland as well as many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly. He was predeceased by his brothers Michael and Brendan, his sisters Rita, Margaret, Josie, Kathleen and Frankie and his infant son Patrick.

Family meant everything to Leo, whether it was sharing stories at family gatherings or lending a helping hand with projects at home or abroad. His legacy is one of unwavering love for those closest to him.

May Mr. Leo Patrick O'Hara's memory bring comfort to all who knew him as they celebrate a life well-lived filled with love for family, faith in God, and dedication to hard work. A wake will be held on June 9, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, NY. A funeral will be held on June 10, 2026, at 10:45 AM at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church 5 Mayfair Road, New Hyde Park, NY.
