Joseph R. Garry

1935 - 2022

OBITUARY

Joseph Richard Garry was born to Sheila Higgins on October 20th, 1935 and raised in Hollis, Queens NY. He attended St. Gerard Magella Elementary School and St. Agnes High School. He was an alter boy and sang in the choir. In November 1959 he married his soulmate Loretta (Laurie) D’Elia from Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They had two children, Jean Claire and Christopher Joseph. They lived in Hollis until moving to Bellerose in 1969 after purchasing their first home. Joe worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation and also held many part-time odd jobs while raising his family. After early retirement as a sanitation worker, Joe bartended in several different places in Queens Village and Bellerose until he landed his last job at Winchester’s in Queens Village, where he worked for seventeen years until retirement at age 71. Sports were his favorite pastime. He ran track in high school and played softball well into his adult years. He was an avid Yankees, Giants, and Rangers fan. However, his greatest love was his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laurie, his children Jean and Chris, son-in law Sandy and grandchildren Matthew and Emily.
