I don't know how I can adequately say goodbye to you. I doubt I could ever express in words how much you mean to me and to our whole family. Growing up, I've never seen a family as involved and connected as ours. I don't know any families that do so much vacationing together or constantly spend so much time together. Because of Pop, a family of four kids and nine grandkids still live a short drive away from each other. I often feel lucky just for being born into a sort of family where this is all normal. Although our most well-documented memories together remind me of countless fun times through the years of Cape Cod and everywhere else…

As a little boy, I remember watching him shuffle down the block after a long day's work. It was late in the afternoon and all the kids on the block were playing in the street. And as tired as he must have been, he never walked by us.

His work boots unlaced. His pace unhurried . . . until he arrived at where we were playing. Then, he joined the fun. He ran, with those heavy work boots on. He ran fast. He took a swing with the bat. He dared you to strike him out. He threw the baseball farther than all of us. He laughed, and made you laugh with him.

Joe Newsome was a gentle breeze on…

Joe Newsome was the mayor of N6th Street. He truly looked out for everyone. The most compassionate guy we had the pleasure to know and love. I remember many evenings just before dinner he would be walking down the block worn out from a hard days work. That would never prevent him from stopping and saying hello, asking how you were, even if you were just a kid. We were a block full of kids growing up and the biggest most enthusiastic kid was JOE NEWSOME ! He worked hard and he played hard, mischieviously jumping in playfully teasing us with spirited fierce competition. A sweet devilish fondness for stirring us up and teaching us to be good sports.

As sad as I feel about saying goodbye to the most caring, thoughtful and loving neighbor NHP will ever know, I will always remember Mr Newsome with a smile. To those of us lucky enough to grow up with him on N6th St, he embodied the things that children admire about adults: he was fun to be around;

he had your back;

he had time for you;

he would encourage you when you needed it and challenge you when you had it coming;

he always made you laugh and you just knew he was cool.

So many of on our block grew up lucky and blessed, and Mr Newsome was a special part of that enduring happiness that shaped our…

My heartfelt condolences to all of the Newsome family. I am so very sorry for your loss. Today I am remembering past Easter Sundays hosted by my sister in law, Maryanne and brother John. I always looked forward to spending the day with the Newsomes. Mr Newsome was so much fun to be around. Wherever there was laughter you could bet Mr Newsome was in that room. You could see how much he loved being with his family and they loved being with him. I especially enjoyed when he would say to me " hey Cathy, listen to what your brother did" and he would proceed to lovingly tease my brother. Oh, it was so great and we would laugh…
