OBITUARY
John F. Fay
August 20, 1937 – May 26, 2026
John F. Fay, of Garden City, New York, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
John was the devoted husband of Margaret “Peggy” Fay, who predeceased him by 88 days, and with whom he shared a lifetime of love, faith, and partnership. Together they built a family grounded in kindness, loyalty, and devotion to one another. He was the proud and loving father of Maureen (Tom) Dowling, Nancy Fay Mason, and John (Lynne) Fay. He was the cherished grandfather of Brian Dowling, Kathryn (Sean) Dowd, Liam (Melanie) Mason, Sean Mason, Kevin Mason, Caroline Fay, Caitlyn Fay, and Megan Fay, and the beloved great-grandfather of Annie Fay Mason.
John dedicated his professional life to public service as a Battalion Chief with the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY). Throughout his distinguished career with the FDNY, he exemplified courage, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting others. He was deeply respected by his fellow firefighters and carried immense pride in serving the people of New York City.
Beyond his career, John was known for his strength, humility, generosity, and steadfast dedication to his family and friends. He was a man of quiet integrity whose presence brought comfort and stability to those around him. Whether through his guidance, humor, or simple acts of kindness, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Faith and family were central to John’s life. He and Peggy were devoted members of Saint Anne’s Parish in Garden City, where they formed lifelong friendships and remained active members of their community.
John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, firefighter, and friend. His legacy of service, loyalty, and love will live on through the family he cherished so deeply.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 9:30 AM at St. Anne’s Church, 35 Dartmouth Street, Garden City, NY.
