1940 - 2022
OBITUARY
Joan Rose Vulpis passed in peace on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the age of 81.
Now in heaven, she will be reunited with her mother Jennie, and father Louis, as well as her beloved grandmother, and namesake, Rose. She is survived by her older brother, Louis Tirelli, with whom she shared a special bond and was blessed with a lifetime of closeness and caring. She will forever be loved and missed by her husband, Dominick Vulpis. This year, July 8th, they would’ve celebrated 60 years of marriage.
He adored her to the end.
Joan lived a beautiful life filled with lots of laughter and thankfully she passed on her great sense of humor to her three children; sons Michael and Christopher (daughter in law, Janine, who was like a daughter to her) and her youngest, daughter Jennifer. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost but her greatest joy came from being a grandmother to her five grandchildren: Jessica, Dominick, Jacqueline, Donato and Matthew. They will forever remember Grandma Joan with a twinkle in her hazel eyes, smile on her face, a joke on her lips, and gum in her bag. She will be further missed by in-laws Michele, Anthony & LuAnn; Best friend and first cousin Linda; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, life-long friends and by so many others whose lives she touched.
Born in the Bronx in 1940, and raised in Flushing Queens, Joan graduated from Bayside High School where her expert typing skills lead to jobs at MetLife and then CBS radio before settling into marriage. Those same skills served her well when she returned to work after her children were grown and she spent over 30 very happy years working for Dr. Mazor, at Woodmere Ophthalmology Associates.
Her passion for reading, bowling and card playing brought her a lifetime of enjoyment and many great friendships(and sometimes even a little money). Joan was a joyful presence with her colorful clothes, beautiful hair, creative fashion choices, and bubbly personality. She loved her friends and family, and filled her home with warmth and kindness and asked for so little in return. Look upon her life with vibrancy color joy love laughter and peace. We will miss her greatly.
