1936 - 2025

OBITUARY

Ingrid Spark passed away on February 5, 2025. She was born on September 18, 1936, in Basbeck, Hemmoor, Germany. In 1959, she emigrated with her twin sister Marlene to the United States. She and Marlene got jobs at the Bulova Watch Company, where she proudly worked for several years.

At the urging of their uncle, who said that she and her sister could not live their whole lives in his basement, she would go to the dances at the Plattdeutsche Park. There, she met someone who could tell her apart from her twin sister by the sound of her voice. In June of 1963, she married Hinrich Spark, and they were happily married for the next 61 years.

Ingrid will be remembered as a kind and generous woman, who truly loved caring for others. She loved to cook and had great talent in the kitchen. Her family will miss her waffles and pavlovas. She loved being outdoors, especially in her garden. She had a green thumb and was known amongst family and friends for her beautiful flowers and house plants.

Ingrid was preceded in death by her father, Wilhelm, her mother, Katharina, and her twin sister, Marlene. She is survived by her beloved husband, Hinrich, and their sons, Kenneth (Sarah) and Henry (Michelle), and three grandsons, Christopher, William, and Matthew. She is also survived by her brothers Manfred (Renate) and Helmut, her sister Helga, and lots of cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of NYU Langone, who were so kind and helpful during Ingrid’s illness.

We used to see Ingrid when she would visit Ken in college. She was always so nice and gave us lots of great food... she also hosted me over Thanksgiving break. I got to know her better over many holiday dinners in Texas. She was always interested in how we all were doing and would talk to us about all that was going on. It is a sadder world without her.

Living with Ken my last year of college and some time after, I remember his parents pulling in loaded with TRAYS of food from the deli. I was trying to live as cheaply as possible and had little to no skill in the kitchen at the time, so these regular hookups were an absolute godsend that kept us fed and healthy. We had to clean like crazy before they arrived to pass the muster of Ken's Mom, but I'll never forget the clear adoration she had for her son or her willingness to include me as simply part of the family. She will be missed!

When you saw Henry you saw his beautiful wife Ingrid. Always going somewhere together in there Volvo. Always a smile on her face, great wife and mother and the very best neighbor. She will be missed tremendously by all.
