Ida Pietromonaco

1937 - 2024

OBITUARY

With a heavy heart and great sorrow we regret to announce that our beloved mother Ida Lattanzio Pietromonaco passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.

Born on September 14, 1937, Ida grew up in the small, picturesque village of Salle in the Abruzzo region of Italy with her loving extended family and close-knit community. Many of these early friendships lasted throughout her life. She was raised by her devoted parents, Rinaldo Lattanzio and Maria Fonzo along with her brother Armando.

A beautiful story of destiny unfolded when Domenico Pietromonaco, Italian immigrant, and co-worker of her father, saw her photo and declared, "I'm going to marry that beautiful girl." True to his word, they wed in 1959 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish and started their life together in Astoria, NY, before settling in New Hyde Park in 1988. With a strong work ethic, Ida began her young career as a seamstress, all while learning a new language and raising a family and later became a school lunch aid in the NYC public school system.

She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Sylvana, her daughter Mary and her husband Gerry, and her beloved grandchildren Domenico, Luke, Cristina, and Mika. Ida was deeply committed to her family, traveling around the world to be with them, including journeys to Tokyo, Paris, Saipan, Vietnam and London.

Ida was a devout member of Notre Dame Catholic Church in New Hyde Park, and her faith and family were the cornerstones of her life. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, dedication, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Always looking on the bright side, she thanked God every day for her blessings and all that God made available to her and family. Forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on the GoFundMe page below . The funds will be used to help restore Ida's beloved hometown church in Salle, Italy where she was born and raised.
