OBITUARY
Hugh J. Mullin of Garden City passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at the age of 92.
Hugh will be remembered for his love of family, God, country and all things Irish! His pride in his Irish heritage was on full display for 50 years as he proudly carried the Donegal banner in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He carried Ireland not only in the parade, but in his heart every day.
Also for more than 50 years, Hugh faithfully served as usher at the 12:30 p.m. Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, a quiet but enduring reflection of his devotion to his parish and community. He was also a long standing member of The Knights of Columbus. Hugh’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his decisions and sustaining him through life’s joys and challenges.
Hugh was predeceased, just 65 days earlier, by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary, and was also predeceased by his cherished son, John Mullin.
He is survived by his daughters, Maryellen Moran(Doug), Brenda Schargel(Howard), and Nancy Lawe; his daughter-in-law, Patti Mullin; his treasured grandchildren, Brian, Colleen, Kevin, Caroline, Ryan, Jack, Matthew, Olivia, Griffin, Aidan, Gavin and Julianne; and his three great-grandsons, JP, Brady and Liam.
Family and friends are invited to gather for Visitation on Monday, July 6, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Hyde Park Funeral Home, New Hyde Park, NY.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Garden City, NY. Interment will immediately follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Old Westbury, NY.
