OBITUARY
Hinrich “Henry” Spark passed away on April 11, 2025. He was born on May 6, 1941, in the small town of Deinstedt, Germany. In 1957, still just a teenager, he emigrated to New York. He went to work in a deli. Henry was a hard worker and soon bought his own deli. He and his long-time business partner, also called Henry, owned and operated H and H Deli in Flushing, Queens, for decades. Their success continued and more delis and more properties followed. Henry was also fun-loving. Everyone was a friend. He met his best friend and the love of his life at the dances at the Plattdeutsche Park. In June of 1963, he married Ingrid, and they were happily married for the next 61 years until her death in February 2025. For the last months of his life, he loved and missed Ingrid every day. Henry will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He loved to be outside, puttering in his yard or with his pond. Everyone was welcome in Henry’s yard to see his fish or just to chat. He loved fish and often had several fish tanks going at one time. He would take a break from the tanks and the pond sometimes and head to the South Shore-to fish! Henry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ingrid and there is comfort in knowing they were always happiest together. He was also predeceased by his parents, Hinrich and Katharina, and his siblings Adelheid, Johann, and Annaliese. He is survived by three sisters, Margaret, Kaethe, and Elizabeth, sons, Kenneth (Sarah) and Henry (Michelle), grandsons, Christopher, William, and Matthew, and lots of cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family would like to thank Ms. Sandra Grant for her care of Henry during the last weeks of his life.

In the short time I cared for Mr. Henry, he quickly made a place in my heart-with his cheeky jokes and that unforgettable twinkle in his eyes. He never failed to make me laugh; even calling me 'hot stuff' just to get a smile. He spoke often and lovingly of his late wife, whose memory clearly lived strong in his heart, and of the pride he had in his two children. Though our time together was brief, he reminded me how deeply someone can impact you in just a few weeks. I'll always remember him.
Love,
Sandra Grant
We were so sorry to hear about Henry's passing. We moved several years go, but we were neighbors for 26 years, whose yard's shared a common fence. He was always kind and tolerant of our children playing in the yard, ball going over the fence, repeatedly. He never complained when they had friends over, who I'm sure were a bit loud and annoying at times. He even fixed the fence because our dog was sliding under it and running away. He always had time to talk and would invite us in to see his coy fish, which he was very proud of. He was a great neighbor and friend who was always had time to chat with you. Our condolen…
