OBITUARY
Herbert W. Berg, Jr., age 82, passed away on September 20, 2025 in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Herb leaves behind a loving family: his son, Michael (Christine); his grandchildren, Olivia and Jack; his brother, Richard “Rick” (Marsha); his sisters, Grace and Lilly; and his son-in-law, Timmy McKeegan. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Herbert and Lillian, his wife, Carol, and his daughter, Kathy.
A 1961 Bayside High School graduate, Herb began working for NYC Parks & Recreation at the Clearview Golf Course, followed by the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965, serving as a Military Police Officer in Korea until 1967, when he was honorably discharged after completing his term. Soon after returning home, he married the love of his life, Carol, in August of 1968.
Herb dedicated over 30 years working for the State of New York for NY Bridge and Tunnel and the Unified Court System, beginning as a Court Officer and ultimately retiring as a Court Clerk.
After retirement, Herb and Carol moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida, where they enjoyed a beautiful home for many years before transitioning to a senior living facility. Herb and Carol were fortunate to have amazing staff members and new friends who truly cared for them there. Many admired the love they observed between Carol and Herb, which never faded after 56 years together. Herb brightened everyone’s day with his warm and memorable smile.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Herb’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, a cause close to their hearts.
