1972 - 2026

OBITUARY

On April 28, 2026, at 11:15AM Gregg passed away after a short but mighty fight against cancer. Gregg is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Genesis; their dog, Zoe; his mother, Kathleen; mother-in-law Mercedes; his brother, Paul; sister-in-laws, Denise, Lili, Linda and Eunice; his three nieces, and six nephews.

Born on May 2, 1972, Gregg grew up in Elmont, New York with his older brother, Paul Jr., and his parents, Kathleen and Paul Sr. As a kid, he played little league, rode his bike around the neighborhood checking which friends were home, and spent his time watching sports, playing cards, and throwing pool balls.

In 1995, Gregg started his long career at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection until he retired in 2022. When he wasn’t working, he was either bowling or playing cards. Gregg was a good bowler—and when he was on his game, he really had fun with his bowling family. Throughout his bowling career, he shot: seven 800 games, ten perfect 300 games, somewhere along the way, he even managed eleven strikes in a row, and left an endless number of “10” pins.

Gregg also loved to play Texas Hold ‘Em. He and his dad ran their own little card game every month, he often played in a tournament on Super Bowl Sunday. He even won a seat into the Main Event at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas—twice—by qualifying through local satellite tournaments.

When Gregg wasn’t bowling or playing poker, he was going to Mets games with Genesis and walking his “angel,” Zoe, around the neighborhood. He loved his family dearly and food even more—specifically, pizza and manicho chocolate.

According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 2.1 million individuals will be diagnosed with cancer in 2026. Of those, approximately 13,910 cases will be soft tissue sarcoma (STS)—the rare cancer Gregg was diagnosed with in September. That means less than 1\% of all cancer diagnoses are STS.

STS develops in muscles, nerves, and other soft tissues, and because it is so rare, funding for research and clinical trials remains limited.

In honor of Gregg, and to help others facing this diagnosis, we ask that you consider making a donation in lieu of flowers. Your support will help raise awareness, advance research, and improve outcomes for those affected by STS.
