OBITUARY
Gloria Agnes Alutto of New Hyde Park, New York November 4, 2023 age 90. Beloved wife of the late John Alutto. Loving Mother of the late Larry Alutto and his wife Joan of Montgomery Village, MD, John Alutto and his wife Ann of Centre Island, NY, Carol McCarthy and her husband Michael of Williston Park, NY, and Charlie Alutto and his wife Marjorie of Lake Forest, IL. Daughter of the late Charles and Teresa Christiano. Predeceased by siblings Joseph Tonto, Mary Guglielmo, Josephine Fetta, Danny Christiano, and Annabell Indiviglia. Survived by siblings Angie Christiano and Dorothy Pizzola. Grandmother of Teresa Alutto-Schmidt, Diana Alutto, Maria Martineau, Michelle Rosa, John Alutto, and Julian, Alex, Nicholas, and Patrick Alutto. Great Grandma of Ryker, Wesley, Quinton, Thea, Allegra, Luca, Giada, and Summer.
Gloria Alutto was born in East Harlem, NY on November 26, 1932. She lived her early life above her family’s candy store, and she reminisced that she had a “sweet tooth” and ate up all of her family’s profit. She met the true love of her life, John Alutto, who grew up one block away from her in Harlem. She would often refer to John as a “Hunk”. Not long after they were married, they settled on Park West in New Hyde Park, NY and she lived there for over 60 years. Gloria loved and adored her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her countless number of nieces and nephews. She gave up her early career working at the Funk and Wagner’s Encyclopedia company, to raise her 4 children. Later in life, she had a second career working at an Italian Bakery in New Hyde Park and certainly accepted her pay in black and white cookies. Her true calling in life came as a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital where she volunteered for over 30 years. She loved to laugh, play cards with her friends, visit with the nuns from St. Francis, tell stories about the “old” neighborhood and how she was courted by her husband. She loved playing ultra-competitive card games and bingo and if she would win, she would say her famous “YES!” Rest in Peace, Gloria, we will miss your great smile and all your hugs and kisses! Visitation at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, NY on Thursday, November 9th from 3 to 8 PM. Funeral Mass at Notre Dame Church, New Hyde Park at 10:45 AM on Friday, November 10th. Interment at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, NY.
