Frank J. Lappin

1923 - 2022

OBITUARY

Frank Lappin, 98, passed away on Monday June 20, 2022 peacefully in his sleep at home, as was his wish, in the bedroom that he shared with his wife Marie for 74 years.

He is survived by Marie, sons Richard (Carol), Robert (Jan), Michael (Sherrie) and James (Lisa), and son-in-law Oscar, as well as by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Frank was born in Middle Village, Queens, endured the death of his mother at age five, and grew up in an apartment with his older brother Lawrence and his widowed father, Frank Sr.

He enlisted in the Army and served honorably in Europe during WW II as a Technical Corporal in the Signal Corps. After the war Frank married, settled in New Hyde Park with Marie, and began his career as a photoengraver. In addition to the usual trials of raising five children, Frank and Marie also suffered the death of their first-born child, Nancy, at age 62, and granddaughter Diane, at age 36. His strong faith carried Frank and Marie through these tragic events.

A devout Catholic, he served at Holy Spirit Church for many years as lector, driver for the FISH program, and on a social service committee that provided resources for parishioners in crisis. Frank was a 4th degree knight of the New Hyde Park Council of the Knights of Columbus and was a leader in recruiting and guiding new members.

Frank was an avid bowler and an occasional golfer and fisherman, but his true recreational love was baseball, as he followed his beloved NY Mets for decades. He loved a good joke and had his own collection of witticisms that has kept the family laughing for years. We will continue to quote him and continue to smile.

He was loved by many. May he rest in peace.
