OBITUARY
Dennis N. Aruta of New Hyde Park, NY passed away on January 6, 2026. He was 86 years old. He was predeceased by brothers Raymond, Ronald, and Gordon; and daughter Jennifer. He is survived by his loving wife Joanna; four daughters, Deborah, Jeanne (Jeff), Allison (Ian), and Laurie; and by his 8 grandchildren, Alex (Brooke), Julia, Nikolette, Jackson, Amelia, Brandon, Hayden, and Jeremy.
Son of Gaetana (Ann) and Marco, Dennis was raised by his mom and stepdad, James G. Peeler, in Washington, DC. After graduating high school, Dennis joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Kearsarge. He went on to graduate from USMMA at Kings Point in 1963 and worked at sea aboard many ships. He brought back many souvenirs for his family from his world travels. Once back on land, Dennis worked for several companies before founding his own ship chartering firm, Denar Chartering.
Dennis loved tending his vegetable garden and was an avid toy train collector. He loved traveling to TCA train conventions and sharing his model layouts with his grandchildren.
He treasured time spent with his family and will be greatly missed.
