OBITUARY
In Loving Memory of Darlene Sanchez
We announce the transition - Saturday, June 27, 2026 - of our beloved sister Darlene Sanchez, 71, who departed our presence but, never our hearts.
Darlene was born unto Lawrence F. Sloan and Fannie M. Posey in New York City on April 7, 1955. She was raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan alongside seven siblings; having attended PS 110, JHS 56, HS of Fashion Industries, and LaGuardia Community College. Darlene graduated from New York University. Darlene was career driven her entire life having worked for Young and Rubican Advertising, The Cowen Agency and most recently the Dept. Of Education.
A loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and dear friend, her kindness, profound strength, courage, and generous heart touched everyone!
Darlene enjoyed celebrating the milestones of the people she held close to her heart. A telephone call, a card, a cake, or gift. You were never forgotten! Darlene's memory was impeccable.
Throughout her life, Darlene found joy in traveling, cooking, baking, candy crafts, shopping and celebrating each day as though it was her last. She will be remembered for her honesty, altruism, warm smile, giving spirit, and the love she so freely shared with family and friends. She particularly connected with her caregivers and friends of whom she met while receiving Hemodialysis over the past several years.
Darlene is survived by her sisters Valarie, Frances, Adriane, one brother-in-law Gilot, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many dear friends, especially her DOE family -Trevor a long time friend as well as her adopted fur babies Bear, Cini and Dapple. She was preceded in death by her husband Pedro Sanchez, mother and father, two sisters Sharian and Vicky, and two brothers, Ricky and Van. Her beloved fur baby Oreo also preceded her in death.
Darlene's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though she is no longer with us in-person- her love, compassion, and many cherished memories will remain forever.
Forever loved, forever missed, forever remembered.

I met Darlene in 1979, we drove up from Oklahoma, you would have thought that she knew us all of her life. We had a ball, she wanted to know what it was like growing up up Oklahoma. Her Mother actually grew up there, but I had the time of my life,she cooked so much food for us, and was always the life of the party. Rest in peace Cuz, no more suffering no more dialysis. Until we meet again.
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Darlene. I was fortunate enough to know Darlene through my mother, Naheed Khan, who was her colleague and dear friend for nearly two decades.
Although she came into our lives through my mom, she never treated us like we were simply her friend’s family. She always made us feel like we were her own. That was just who she was.
One of the things I’ll always remember most is how thoughtful she was with my son Jace, who she only met once. She went out of her way to make him feel loved. Whether it was a birthday, a holiday, or simply because she was thinking of him, she would…
Although I mostly knew Darlene through my mother, Naheed, her loving and generous spirit radiated across that distance without losing even a flicker of its brilliance. It truly always felt like we were her family too. It’s a blessing to have crossed paths with such a special and unique person during her lifetime and mine.
Heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones, who number many, as she was always seeking to expand the circle of people with whom she shared and showed love.
Darlene was a colleague of my mother, Naheed, for many years and one of her dear friends. Her friendship with my mother extended far beyond just the two of them, she always treated all of my siblings and I, and my nephew as family, too. She was such a kind-hearted person who always remembered every detail about each of us and our interests. She would often send gifts for my nephew and always asked about him, she really treated every one of us like we were her own family. I was deeply saddened to hear about her falling ill and her passing. I am sure she touched the lives of many and she will surely be missed.

Darlene and I have known each other for over 30 years and shared a special friendship. She was generous, funny, quirky, thoughtful, creative, resilient, caring, and much more.
I remember so many times when Darlene would make food for people or occasions and how much it gave her joy as well as when she would build baskets and create other gifts for people. She had a sense of humor that you would find yourself giggling about a joke or act afterwards; a knack for storytelling that had me wonder where such weird, yet creative juices came from. Darlene had a few accidents and issues with health but always took it in stride, showing resilience and a determination to overcome whatever came her…
