OBITUARY

Caputi, Audrey Claire on July 18, 2026, of New Hyde Park. Beloved wife of the late Patsy (2021). Loving sister of the late Alfred (Joyce), Robert (Ann), Rosanne (Eric), and the late Ethel Jackson. Friends and Family to celebrate Audrey's life on Sunday July 26 2:00 - 4:30 PM & 7:00 - 9:30 PM.

Our sister, Audrey, was the second oldest in our family and had four siblings:  oldest sister, Ethel, twin brothers, Al and Bob, and younger sister, Rosanne.  (At present, Audrey is survived by Bob and Rosanne only.)  She married Patsy Caputi (yes, you heard that right…on his birth certificate, it said “Patsy”) so over the years, when phone calls came in: “May I speak to Patsy?  Is SHE there.?”  Audrey got tired after a while, rolling her eyes: “Patsy is my husband…I’m his wife Audrey”. so, she always called him by his nickname Pat.  So now, people thought that was short for “Pasquale” and again Audrey repeatedly rolling her eyes would say, “No, believe it or not, Pat’s actual name is “Patsy” and would proceed to explain ad infinitum! 

Audrey married Pat, a Korean War-era veteran, on November 16, 1957, who passed on July 17, 2012.  They were happily married for 55 years but unfortunately were not blessed with children. 

Audrey and Pat started their married life together on the East-side of Manhattan and later moved to Alley Pond Apartments in Bayside, NY for a few years, and then, in 1967, purchased their first and only home on Talbot Street here in New Hyde Park.  Although they lived on the borderline of New Hyde Park in Herricks, closer to Williston Park, they chose to be parishioners of Notre Dame and had one specific row that they sat in every Sunday for Mass.

Audrey was known as “Audrey” or “Aud”, but many, many other countless friends called her “Aunt Audrey”.   As far as her biological family goes, Audrey had two nieces, six nephews and ten grand-nieces and nephews. 

Her extended family and many friends for that matter, have many fond memories of good times over the years at her home for parties, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc. and she was famous for her meatballs, pizzelle, and of course, biscotti. 

Audrey loved bowling, extensive travelling with Pat, trips to Woodloch Pines, activities in the Herricks Leisure Club, and had many dear friends near and far…many of whom she has outlived.   Up until December 2025, she loved to play rummikub and would almost always win the game…even into her 90’s.

Our Dad passed at age 55, and Audrey was a very caring big sister when her siblings needed a “parent figure” especially when our Mom (her step-Mom) was ill which was quite often over the years until Mom’s passing in 1978.

Audrey (and Pat for that matter) loved to watch TV, especially movies with vintage actors and actresses that were famous in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s.   Audrey was also a big fan of Josh Groban, Jackie Evancho, Andrea Bocelli, and had a special affection for actor, James Cagney… in the movie, “Yankee Doodle Dandy” , probably the only one where he played as a song-and-dance man, rather than a tough guy.  He did look a LOT like her husband, Pat. 

Audrey lost her husband, Pat, on July 17, 2012, and she passed on July 18, (one day after the fourteenth anniversary of Pat’s passing). Reluctantly, she agreed to move into the  Arbors Assisted Living in Westbury on April 1, 2021 when her home… her pride and joy on Talbot Street became unmanageable for her.  For over a year, she continued to enjoy being picked up by her local hometown friends for weekly rummikub games and dinner.  Everything changed, however, at the loss of our brother, Al, in December, 2022.  Audrey would never be the same.  She often said, “I took care of him when he was a baby…why am I still here, and he’s gone.” 

At the Arbors, she maintained a close friendship with her side-kick, Marilyn Stein, who, although younger than Audrey, kept a motherly eye on her.  When Audrey was in rehab last December, Marilyn called Audrey and couldn’t wait until Audrey returned to the Arbors and was holding her place at the rummikub table. However, Marilyn passed while Audrey was still in rehab, just months before Audrey.

Audrey is survived by her brother, Robert Bonvicino (wife Ann), sister Rosanne (Bonvicino/Scaturro) Spinner, (husband Eric), Nephews and Nieces, Darlene Bonvicino, Paul Bonvicino, Frank Scaturro (wife Kathleen), Julia Scaturro, James Bonvicino, Jeffrey Bonvicino (wife Mary), Joe Bonvicino (wife Jessica), Jonathan Bonvicino (wife Alicia) and 10 grand-nieces and nephews:  Dana Delavergne (husband Eric), James Patrick, Ellia and Mila Bonvicino, Lila, Sloane and Harrison Bonvicino, Sofia Bonvicino and John and Grant Scaturro.
