6/28/1968 - 2/22/2020 OBITUARY Beloved wife for 27 years to John, Mother to Diana, Grace and Brendan. Daughter of Francis and the late Maureen Smith, sister of Alicia Hayes (John) Christopher Smith (Aaron) Maureen Maloney(Matt) Sarah O’Sullivan(John) aunt of 10. Karen dedicated her life to supporting the medically fragile special needs community of the metropolitan area, most recently as Educational Director of the International Hope Academy. (IHOPe) Services will be on Thursday Feb 27 and Friday Feb 28th at New Hyde Park funeral home 2-4:30pm & 7-9:30pm. Mass of Christian burial on Saturday Feb 29th ,10:30am at Holy Spirit Church in New Hyde Park. In lieu of flowers an educational fund has been set up for the three Tumulty Children. An amazing leader, mentor and friend. Karen made Roosevelt Children's Center a place all her teachers, therapists, and staff looked forward to coming to each day. Karen taught me everything I know about working with nonverbal students-now my life's work. Karen-your legacy lives in the hearts of so many special children (and lots of grown ups, too). Sending so much love to her family, who I know she cherished so much.
I had the pleasure of knowing Karen thru Holy Spirit Catholic Church as well as teaching her son, Brendan. Her outpouring of love for others & her unending faith will always be remembered. We are all deeply saddened by the loss of someone so wonderful, way too soon. May God watch over all of you in this time of sorrow.
Karen was the heart and soul of our family.
Karen was a wonderful woman who used her talents and dedication to touch many young lives for the better. She made this world a better place through her efforts. We were LIRR buddies a few times in the summers and she will always live on through her beautiful family.
Karen,my dear kind friend of 30 years, and co-worker for most of those years, impacted many lives both professionally and personally. She was, and in my heart always will be, a special human being. I will always feel blessed that she chose me to be her friend for all these years. My husband Bobby and I will keep her beautiful, loving family in our thoughts and prayers everyday.
