OBITUARY
On Monday, September 30th, 2019, Douglas Nuccio, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 58. Douglas was born on December 24, 1960, in Manhattan, NY to Geraldine and Lawrence Nuccio. On May 21st, 1989, he married Janet Beiter Nuccio. They raised a daughter, Elizabeth, and a son, Marc. Douglas received his Bachelors degree in Math Education in 2008, and his Masters in Educational Technology in 2013. He worked for Herricks Union Free School District for 11 years in multiple capacities, including as a substitute teacher, director and assistant director of the Summer Recreation Program, and director of the Friday Night Recreation Program. Prior to this, he worked as a salesman from 1990-2008 at multiple stores, including Radio Shack, PC Richard, and Home Appliance.
Douglas had a love for nature, and would spend as much of his time outdoors as possible, gardening and landscaping. He was a passionate musician for much of his life, touring through Europe with the all state high school band in the late 1970s, and playing the piano at home for much of his later life. He was an avid reader, animal lover, and owned and watched thousands of movies.
Douglas was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine, and his brother, David. He is survived by his wife Janet, his two children, Elizabeth and Marc, his brothers Lawrence and Paul, his father Lawrence, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services for Douglas will be held on Sunday, October 6th, 2019 at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home on Lakeville Road from 2:00PM-4:30PM, and from 7:00PM-9:30PM. Donations in Douglas' name can be made to the American Heart Association MEMORIAL VISITATION Sunday, October 6 2:00 - 4:30 PM & 7:00 - 9:30 PM

I was shocked and saddened when Doug's brother Paul called me with the news that Douglas had died. I couldn't believe it! He was such a caring person with a wonderful sense of humor. I last saw him at his Mother's funeral. I promised to send him some family pictures and never got around to it. His Mom and I were close in age and grew up together. His parents and Doug's family attended the burial of my husband at Arlington Cemetery. My family and I were so appreciative that they made the long trip from New York to Virginia. I will miss his humorous texts and phone calls. His loss leaves a big void in our family. Heartfelt sympathy…
Doug was my (Gloria) first cousin, once removed. I remember him mostly as a child growing up. A sweet and kind boy, and the youngest of all the Nuccio boys.
When last we spoke, on the phone, I immediately noticed his very caring and loving way. He was extramely concerned about his Mother, who was very ill.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife Janet, daughter Elizabeth and son Marc. Wish we could be there in person, but know that our thoughts and loving feelings are reaching out across the miles.

Doug was such a kind, patient and talented math teacher! He was appreciated and well liked by both students and colleagues. The Herricks school community is shocked and saddened by his sudden passing. He will be deeply missed!
