OBITUARY
Robert F. Snow, 85, of Brooklyn, NY passed away peacefully at 11:18 PM on July 13, 2019, surrounded by his family. He departed during a power outage in New York City, and indeed Brooklyn lost a bright light. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, who was his partner in life, in sickness and in health, since 1960. Mary cared for him with love and devotion since he was diagnosed with cancer in 1990. He is also survived by his children Bob and wife Liz, Mary and husband Nick, Barbara, and Kathleen as well as his two favorite granddaughters Michaela and Macenzie. Bob was the devoted son of Catherine Veronica and James Snow, and brother of the late Gerry, Ann and Kathleen and uncle of many special nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Bob’s greatest pleasure in life was time spent with his wonderful extended family of Snows, Walls, Kalbachers, McCanns, McNallys and Sullivans. He lived in the Kensington neighborhood all his life and loved Brooklyn and its history. Bob parents’ families came from Ireland and Newfoundland; he embraced both cultures and both places. Spring Lake, NJ was a second home for Bob and his extended family, as he loved the beach. He was a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary and served as a lector, parish leader, and Eucharistic Minister. He attended IHM, St. Michael’s High School, St. John’s University and NYU. Following his early work selling balloons in Prospect Park, Bob worked for the remainder of his career at The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States. Bob loved traveling and returning to Brooklyn. Bob cherished hearing, generating and telling stories, in detail. Like his Mom, he laughed so hard he cried if something was particularly funny; like his Dad, he had a razor-sharp wit. He loved sports, and witnessed - in person – both the Rangers Stanley Cup victory in 1994 (season-ticket holder!) and the Mets World Series victory in 1969. He remained sad about the Brooklyn Dodgers to the end. Bob loved flowers, picking out the right clothes and jewelry for his daughters and having family gatherings – the larger the better.
To invoke the Yiddish phrase “mensch”, Bob was a particularly good person, a stand-up guy, a loyal friend and a true gentle man. In the last few months of his life, the Snow family received extraordinary support from countless caregivers, nurses and doctors. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in his name to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or Calvary Hospital.
