December 26, 1945 - August 8, 2018

OBITUARY Kane, Maureen Elizabeth (nee Connolly). Maureen, the much-loved first child of the late Richard and Anne Connolly, niece of the late Mary Ericksen, and sister to Richard (Phyllis), Serena, Rita Alice (Bob), and Bill (Adrienne), left us for where it is always sunny on 8/8/18. On an equally hot day 53 years ago Maureen said “I do” to Don, a dashing courtier from Cambria Heights. This high spirited union was blessed by the arrivals of Kristen(Steve), Sean (Nicole), and Meghan (Dennis). “K5” was happily expanded by grandchildren Caleigh, Aiden, Dominic, Layla, and Gracie. As her many, many friends can attest, Maureen was smart, funny, and gregarious. She had a remarkable memory, and was the go-to person whenever one needed to know the name and age of friends’ children and their children’s children, as well as the intricacies of the lives of people in the news. Countless happy memories were made in the house on Rio Drive, the cabana at the Sun and Surf Beach Club, and wherever the Las Vegas girls would gather. Maureen faced her recent challenges with amazing grace and good humor, and kept a positive attitude in circumstances where others might have thrown in the (beach) towel. Her family and friends will come together to celebrate her life Friday August 10 at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park 2 PM- 9 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 8645 Edgerton Blvd, Jamaica, NY on Saturday at 10 AM In Maureen’s honor, please wear your favorite summer colors to these events. www.nhpfh.com VISITATION Friday, August 10 2:00 - 9:00 PM New Hyde Park Funeral Home 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, NY MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Saturday, August 11 10:00 AM Immaculate Conception RC Church 8645 Edgerton Blvd, Jamaica, NY Private Cremation

Mrs. Kane was a large figure in my childhood, always welcoming me into her home, letting Meghan and I eat and make anything we wanted in the kitchen. She always gave us the run of the house. Of course there was Christmas tree decorating time when Mrs. Kane really let this little Jewish girl go crazy. She never said no when I asked if I can sew popcorn to hang around the tree. Each year she gave me a pair of Christmas socks, some of which I still have today over 30 years later. Mrs. Kane was kind, giving and loved by all. Meghan, Kristen, Sean and Mr. Kane I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sorry I missed the…

My thoughts and prayers go out to Maureen's family. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Maureen I heard many beautiful stories about her through her sister in law Phyllis. She has left many beautiful memories.

One of Maureen's gifts was her ability to be honest and kind at the same time. She always made me feel as if she could see right through me and accept who she saw. One of the many reasons that I loved Maureen was how much she loved my sister Valerie and was always her faithful friend. I grieve for her family and friends who loved her and will miss her.
