Eugene Madden

November 29, 1966 - February 6, 2018 OBITUARY Eugene Francis Madden (aka Gene/Geno/UE) was born on November 29, 1966 in Hoboken, NJ and was the youngest of four. He grew up in Long Island, NY and graduated Valley Stream Central High. Gene had many life-long friendships and his natural charm and wit won over new friends wherever he went. He loved sports both as a participant and fan (and not shy to voice his disappointment). Gene was a true patriot, avid history buff, and loved to take part in a good debate. He was proud of his Irish heritage and loved to spend time at his family home in West Cork and sharing that experience with friends over the years. A natural protector, Gene found his calling with the NYPD for 20 years; first with Housing PSA 6 & 2 and later in the Narcotics Division for Manhattan North, Queens Division, and Queens North. He was promoted to Detective in 1996 and was an elected Delegate to the Detectives Endowment Association (DEA) for the Queens Narcotic Division. Among his commendations, Gene received the Combat Cross in 1993 for his actions in the line of duty. By far, his greatest NYPD honor was serving alongside his colleagues as a 9/11 first responder for many months. After his retirement, Gene settled in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he passed on February 6, 2018. Gene is the son of the late James and Elizabeth Madden of whom he thought of daily. He is survived by his son Andrew who is his pride & joy, his loving wife Olesya and 3 siblings: Barry, Pauline & Traci as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins both here and abroad. He will be missed by many friends and his brotherhood of NYPD colleagues. A visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet. A service will be held at 6:00 PM. A visitation in NY will be held Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 1:00-3:30 PM and 6:00-8:30 PM at New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde, NY 11040.
