Kamakshi Ramamoorthy

October 25, 2017 OBITUARY Kamakshi Ramamoorthy (1942-2017) Passed away on October 25, 2017 of pancreatic cancer, against which she fought a brave battle, in Bellerose, NY. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, kind grandmother, sincere friend, and a dedicated teacher. She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Narayanaiyer Ramamoorthy, daughters Vidhya (Irfan) Gilani and Lakshmi (Sanjeev) Bhojraj and grandchildren Divya and Jaya Bhojraj, and Abul Gilani. Born in southern India, she was the last of seven siblings in her family. A brilliant student, she majored in mathematics at her university where she was the only woman to do so, and went on to pursue her Masters in the subject After working as a university lecturer, she married and traveled the world as the wife of a diplomat. It was said by a jyoshyon, or oracle, at her birth that she would be driven by a lifelong thirst for knowledge, which was a fitting prediction. After arriving in the U.S. in her mid-forties, she went on to pursue three additional degrees in education and re-joined the workforce as a teacher in New York, serving as an inspiration to her many students. At home, she was a loving and beloved mother, an exceptional cook, a green-thumbed gardener, and a gifted artist whose work adorns many walls. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
