Lawrence Alutto

OBITUARY

Lawrence C. Alutto, 62, of Linthicum Heights, Maryland, (formerly of New Hyde Park, NY and Windsor, CT) died on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Larry was born on October 11, 1954 in Bronx, New York, the first child of Gloria Alutto, of New Hyde Park, NY, and the late John Alutto, Sr. Larry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joan, who was the love of his life. He is also survived by his three children, Teresa, Maria, and John; their spouses, Chris, Brian, and Kristen; his siblings, John and wife Ann, Carol Ann and husband Michael, and Charlie and wife Margie; nieces and nephews, Diana, Michelle, Julian, Alex, Nicholas, and Patrick; and a large extended family, all of whom feel this loss deeply. Diagnosed with lupus in 1973, Larry defied expectations for more than 4 decades. Ignoring his health challenges, he became a member of the Garden City Park Fire Department in 1976. He proudly served as a volunteer for 14 years, initially as a paramedic and eventually as Department Chief. While Larry's final years were physically difficult, those years also included some of his greatest joys. He happily watched each of his children get married, and was thrilled to become "Papa." He relished the time he spent with his grandchildren-Ryker, Wesley, Quinton, and Thea-and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his second granddaughter, Allegra, this coming winter. Friends and family may visit at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Rd, New Hyde Park, NY on Friday, October, 21st from 2:00-4:30 PM and 7:00-9:30 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 22nd at 9:15 AM, Notre Dame Church, 45 Mayfair Rd, New Hyde Park, with inurnment to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery. Larry's family will be eternally grateful for the compassionate care he received at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, particularly over the last two months.
