John Joseph Hegarty

OBITUARY 

John Joseph Hegarty, 83, passed away on October 7, 2019.  He was born in New York City on July 26, 1936 and grew up in Mineola & Deer Park, NY.  He was a resident of Brightwaters, NY, Bolton Landing NY, and Edgewater, NJ. John served in the army from 1961 to 1967.  He was a retired union ironworker and was the proud founder and owner of E&J Construction in Elizabeth, NJ. When not working, John loved to spend time in Lake George, New York with his family. John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Hegarty (nee McGowan).  John was a loving father to Mary Toomey (Jack), Timothy Hegarty (Katie), and John Hegarty (Kerri).  He was also a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren:  Ryan Hegarty, Colleen Toomey, Elizabeth Hegarty, Andrew Hegarty, Michaela Toomey, Rachel Hegarty, John Toomey, Owen Hegarty, and Julia Hegarty. John is predeceased by one brother, Timothy Hegarty. He is survived by two brothers, Michael Hegarty (Anita), Chris Hegarty (Ann), and a sister Patty Tesauro (Dr. William, predeceased).  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation for John will be held at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Rd. New Hyde Park, NY on Friday October 11 from 9:30 -11:30 AM, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 500 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park, NY. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name would be appreciated to the Katie McBride Foundation or the Glen Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Squad
