OBITUARY
Marie “Molly” De Maria was called to eternal rest on April 17, 2020, at the age of 95.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony “Tony” De Maria, and loving daughter-in-law, Patricia De Maria, as well as her four brothers and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her loving son, Thomas De Maria, and devoted grandchildren, Katherine, Anthony, and Vanessa De Maria, as well as several nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Molly was the epitome of unconditional love. She was a devout Catholic who was faithful to and loved her Lord and her “special friend,” Out Lady of Mount Carmel. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church in Howard Beach, N.Y., for more than 63 years. She constantly showered her family and friends with unending love and was always there for all of them. Molly loved cooking for family and friends: the more the merrier. Whether it was her outstanding, once-a-year linguine with crab sauce, her incomparable peppers and egg sandwiches, her crowd-pleasing rice balls or pizzas, or a host of many other delicacies, the main ingredient in all of her cooking was love.
So, remember Molly fondly and share your stories. She always said that she lived a long and wonderful life. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we will celebrate Molly’s life in a few months when possible. Meanwhile, pray for the repose of her soul. As she would often say, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24). Rest in peace.

The last of a dying breed, Aunt Molly, (my God Mother), was the definitive family matriarch. The sole sister among four brothers, she was the solid thread of a family tapestry born of immigrant parents from the Bari area of Italy, located in the Apulia, Southern Region. Her colorful, story telling memories, recollections and adherence of a hard-working, vibrant family tradition, which carried forward to the next generation living in this country, gave loving insight to nieces, nephews and grandchildren, most importantly, keeping vivid the historical legacy and importance of family.
Sending my love and sympathy to all of Molly's family. She was a loving strong personality. May she Rest In Peace.
